One look told me where I’d have to be; no point on the usual spot at the start of the flood and there’s no point fishing it anyway right now with what’s going on 😉 so, school run finished I headed straight down and out to the hole. Dropped down bang on the mark – the hole isn’t big, and within ten minutes the rod was almost pulled over the side as a lovely hound shot off with the whole squid in it’s gob. A beautifully marked starry.
Slack arrived soon after and I sat through it, banging out whiting including a double shot on a 6/0 pennel. These were the ones that wouldn’t take no for an answer; squid being stripped if I left them too long…a couple took the hooks down and had to come home, decent ones to be fair but I’ve not got the space in the freezer for them. Wasted my time either side of slack with a live whiting down the line on one rod which managed to get off to be replaced by two larger ones somehow. Only ever had (my first double) bass on it but try it every year just in case.
The flood started and an hour later I decided to shoot in once I’d finished my last squid from the first pack…then along came a spider and sat down beside her…
Not bad for probably 2 hours fishing in very, very clear water.
