Fladen Fishing Tail Baits then, perhaps not something you’d naturally associate with freshwater predator fishing after all I certainly wasn’t aware of them anyway but I am now and I’m impressed. I’m not just impressed at these tail baits which are pretty awesome but the whole Maxximus range available from Fladen and if you like Pike and Predator fishing then check out the range as there really are some exciting and innovative products contained within it.
Being the self-confessed predator addict that I am then I have been testing out various products for Fladen and part of this has included 4 types of a family of tail baits.
Fladen Tail Baits come in differing sizes ranging from the “Tail-Or Baby” at 18g to the “Tail-Or XL” which weighs in at 80g. Sandwiched in the middle there is the “Tail-Or Jr” at 30g and the 50g “Tail-OR” as well so the weight range is certainly well covered and there is something for everyone.
Tail-Or Baby: 18g, 12.5cm
Tail-Or Jr: 30g, 19cm
Tail-Or: 50g, 25cm
Tail-Or XL: 80g 27cm
There are some fantastic colours within the range and to be honest with you I have to say it’s extremely difficult to choose one particular one, yes there are that many. From bright unnatural colours that really stand out like a beacon such as “lollipop” to the more natural colours like Perch. If I had to choose then “Hot Green” looks a winner to me and I’ve caught a few on it but like I say they all have fantastic potential.
Each lure is fitted with double VMC super sharp hooks and they really are sharp which I’ve found out at my own personal cost, remember it’s not predator fishing till you bleed or get the hooks stuck in your clothing or lure bag. (This isn’t Carp fishing).
Technique wise these lures are suitable for spinning or casting and on the retrieve very simply seductively wobble from side to side and combined with the fluttering tail make them irresistible to predators. They are slow sinking so ideally suited for shallower waters in my opinion and you can fish them very slowly or with a fast retrieve.
A great feature of these lures is that you can remove the tail and just use them as a standard jerk bait. So you have a choice and on those days that the pike aren’t really feeding sometimes scaling down can make fish take more confidently and you can convert the follows simply by removing the tail.
The latex/rubber tails can be replaced and Fladen have had the foresight to stock replacements as the hard bodied jerk baits potentially will last for ever.
The family of “Tail-OR’s” produced by Fladen are in my opinion certainly an asset to the lure angler. They will work on canals, lakes, larger still waters and rivers, indeed anywhere. Having the combined option or feature of a 2 in 1 lure is a certainly attractive and an asset. With a fantastic colour and size choice and being competitively priced from approximately £6 -£10 depending on size they are certainly worth checking out this Autumn/Winter.
Fladen Tail-OR’s are available now on Amazon or from your local Fladen stockist (see links). Check them out and tight lines!
